Grayscale Image provides browser-based tools for converting images to grayscale, black and white, monochrome, and related low-color workflows. The core tools are designed to work without watermarks, signups, or hidden fees.

Privacy First
All image processing happens directly in your browser using HTML5 Canvas technology. Your images are never uploaded to our servers. This means:
- No image data is transmitted over the internet
- No images are stored on any server
- Processing is instant with no upload/download wait times
- Your photos remain completely private
Who We Are
Grayscale Image is created and maintained by Daniel Lin, an independent web developer focused on small browser-based tools for image conversion and publishing workflows. Daniel builds and tests the tools around everyday tasks: preparing black-and-white photos, converting screenshots, preserving PNG transparency, checking JPEG compression artifacts, and comparing how different grayscale formulas affect the same image.
The site provides practical, privacy-first image conversion tools paired with guides for people who need grayscale, black-and-white, and artistic filter output without installing desktop software. When a guide discusses technical behavior, it is written from hands-on browser testing and checked against public documentation such as MDN Web Docs, W3C Canvas behavior, and ITU-R luminance standards where relevant.
How We Test the Tools
Before a tool or guide is published, we check the workflow against a small set of common image types:
- Photographs with skin tones, skies, foliage, and high-contrast shadows.
- PNG assets with transparent pixels and sharp edges.
- JPEG images with visible compression artifacts.
- Screenshots, text-heavy images, and line-art examples.

The goal is not to make broad claims about every possible image editor. The goal is to document what this browser-based workflow does, where it works well, and where users may need a different method such as desktop software, RAW photo editing, or print-specific color management.
